The OBD/SS Legacy is a full electronic suspension control module emulator for 2007 to 2014 GM SUVs equipped with Autoride, RPO Z55. Cadillac SUVs began using MagneRide, RPO Z95, in 2009, and those are supported by the Legacy as well.
Autoride is not MagneRide. On these vehicles, the front dampers use internal solenoid actuators that change how freely the hydraulic fluid flows through the shock, rather than magnetorheological fluid. The rear dampers combine that same electronic valving with an air sleeve for automatic level control. One module manages both halves: the electronic suspension control (ESC) module. GM renamed this module the suspension control module (SCM) starting in 2015.
The Legacy connects at the OBD-II port and on the retained accessory power circuit, and emulates the ESC on the vehicle bus, including valid ride height data. Because the vehicle sees a complete, healthy suspension module reporting normal signals, the "Service Suspension System" fault does not set, and neither does the "Speed Limited" state that follows two or more disabled dampers.
Because the Legacy emulates the entire module rather than only silencing missing shock faults, you can convert the whole suspension. Replace all four dampers with conventional or coilover units, and remove the air leveling system completely, including the compressor, the dryer, and the air lines. There is no air line loop to route and no compressor to keep powered so it can pass its ignition self-check. Ride Height Simulators are not required, because the module supplies the ride height signal itself.
All four corners are converted at the same time. The Legacy is a full-system emulator, so partial installs, front only or a single damper, are not supported.
SUVs only. The Legacy emulates the air leveling system along with the dampers.
Before you order, one thing worth knowing: the automatic level control system comes off the vehicle with this conversion. Your rear coil springs still carry the vehicle, so unloaded ride height is unaffected, but the rear will no longer level itself when you load the cargo area or hitch a trailer. If automatic rear leveling matters for how you use the vehicle, we do not offer a front-only option on this platform.
