Many performance cars, luxury SUVs and even pickups use adaptive dampers to improve ride comfort and handling. Two common GM‑developed technologies are Magnetic Ride Control (MagneRide) and Adaptive Ride Control (ARC). Both systems adjust a vehicle’s shock absorbers in real time, but MagneRide uses magnetorheological fluid (iron particles suspended in oil), while ARC uses electronically controlled valves without the magnetic fluid. Below is a list of vehicles known to have these systems either as standard equipment or as an optional package.

Adaptive Ride Control (ARC)
General Motors introduced Adaptive Ride Control in 2019 as a lower‑cost, valve‑based alternative to magnetic dampers. ARC constantly reads road and vehicle inputs and adjusts the dampers electronically. It is coded RPO Z45 and is currently limited to GM full‑size pickups and SUVs. ARC vehicles are listed below:
-
GMC Sierra 1500 (2019‑present) – Denali and premium trims use Adaptive Ride Control, making the 2019 Sierra Denali the first vehicle with this system.
-
Future GM models – ARC is expected to appear on the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado, as well as on the Cadillac Escalade. As of January 2026, no other production vehicle outside the Sierra uses ARC.
